Libertalia: In Libertalia, players are rival pirate captains seeking to amass the most wealth by plundering ships and gathering treasure. The game involves simultaneous action selection and strategic card play as players compete to outwit and outmaneuver each other.

Zapotec: Zapotec is a civilization-building board game set in ancient Mesoamerica. Players construct buildings, develop technologies, and manage resources to grow their civilization and achieve dominance over the region.

Lindsie’s Selections:

Oceans: Oceans is a thematic strategy game where players take on the role of species evolving and adapting in a dynamic marine ecosystem. Players must balance aspects like population growth, feeding, and traits to thrive and survive in the ever-changing environment.

The Castles of Burgundy: In this classic Euro-style board game, players are aristocrats in the 15th century, seeking to build their estates by trading, farming, mining, and developing their territories. The game involves dice rolling and tile placement mechanics to construct the most prosperous and prestigious domain.

New York Zoo: New York Zoo is a tile-laying game where players aim to build the most attractive and efficiently designed zoo. Players expand their zoo by placing animal tiles and building enclosures, trying to fulfill specific goals and attract the most visitors.

Anthony’s Choices:

With the modern classics this week…

Ticket To Ride: Ticket To Ride is a popular railway-themed board game where players collect train cards to claim railway routes across a map of various regions. The objective is to connect specific destinations and complete tickets while thwarting opponents’ plans.

Settlers Of Catan Explorers and Pirates Expansion: This expansion for Settlers of Catan introduces new scenarios and mechanics, allowing players to explore and colonize distant islands, encounter pirates, and engage in trade and exploration beyond the original game’s scope.

Pandemic: Pandemic is a cooperative board game where players work together as members of a disease control team to prevent global outbreaks of deadly diseases. Players must strategize and coordinate their actions to find cures and save humanity before it’s too late.

Joey’s Favorites:

  1. Heat: Based on simple and intuitive hand management, Heat: Pedal to the Metal puts players in the driver’s seat of intense car races, jockeying for position to cross the finish line first, while managing their car’s speed if they don’t want to overheat. Selecting the right upgrades for their car will help them hug the curves and keep their engine cool enough to maintain top speeds. Ultimately, their driving skills will be the key to victory! [BGG]
  2. Kingdomino: Kingdomino is a tile-laying game where players build their own kingdoms by placing domino-like tiles depicting different types of terrain. Players must strategically place tiles to maximize their scoring potential while ensuring continuity and variety in their kingdom layout.
  3. Doomlings: Doomlings is a card game where players control a group of cosmic beings known as Doomlings, trying to navigate the end of the universe with humor and absurdity. Players play cards to build their Doomsday deck, accumulating points and causing chaos as they race towards oblivion.

Filler Games

This week, we chose one filler game each. A filler board game is essentially a quick, light game that serves as a palate cleanser between longer or more intense board games. These games are typically shorter in duration, easy to learn, and require minimal setup and components. They’re perfect for filling the gaps between larger gaming sessions or when you’re waiting for other players.

Deep Dive: Deep Dive is a press-your-luck set-collection game in which you use your waddle of penguins to dive deep into the ocean to amass the most bountiful collection of food! Turns are simple: Flip over an ocean tile, and see what you reveal. You can take what you reveal in the shallows or dive deeper, hoping for a larger catch — but the deeper you go, the more plentiful the predators become. As you surface with food, you build sets of three colors. Target the colors you need to complete sets and score the maximum number of points. When one of the depths of the ocean has been fully explored, the game ends and the penguin waddle with the best sets of food wins! [BGG]

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza: A hilarious and fast-paced card game that challenges players’ reflexes and memory skills. The game consists of a deck of cards featuring various images of tacos, cats, goats, cheese, and pizzas. Players take turns flipping over cards one by one while saying “Taco,” “Cat,” “Goat,” “Cheese,” or “Pizza” in rhythm. When the image on the card matches the word spoken, players must slap the pile of cards. The last player to slap loses the round, and the game continues until one player has no cards left.

Romi Rami: A delightful card game that combines elements of strategy and luck. Players aim to build sequences of numbered cards in ascending order, similar to the classic card game Rummy. However, Romi Rami introduces a twist by incorporating special action cards that allow players to disrupt their opponents’ progress or enhance their own strategies. With its colorful and engaging design, Romi Rami offers a fun and accessible gaming experience for players of all skill levels. Whether you’re looking to challenge your friends or enjoy a casual game night with family, “Romi Rami” is sure to provide hours of entertainment.

Marvel Infinity Gauntlet: Marvel Infinity Gauntlet immerses players in the epic saga of the Marvel Universe as they wield the power of the Infinity Stones. In this cooperative deck-building game, players take on the roles of iconic Marvel superheroes, each with unique abilities and powers. Together, they must confront formidable villains and thwart their plans to assemble the Infinity Gauntlet. The game features a modular board representing different locations across the Marvel Universe, where players can battle enemies, acquire new cards for their decks, and ultimately face off against the Mad Titan, Thanos.
