Saltine Cracker Toffee might be the easiest thing I have made this year! I can see why it’s also called Christmas Crack! This stuff is sinful! And best of all, it was SO EASY to make!
When I say that this was way too easy to make, I mean it! And, because it was so cold out, I was able to cool my Saltine Cracker Toffee on the back porch, and it was ready to break up and eat in no time at all! I just added Heath to ours, but there are so many different fun ideas that came to my mind as I was topping the toffee. See some more ideas below.
How To Make Saltine Cracker Toffee
Gather Tools & Equipment
- sheet tray
- foil
- whisk
- small pot
Gather Your Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make Saltine Cracker Toffee. This recipe makes a quarter sheet pan worth. Double the recipe to make a bigger batch. But, I found, combined with other Christmas baking, this is the perfect amount.
- 1 sleeve saltine crackers
- 1 stick butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla or other extract
- 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup “topping” (see below)
Topping Ideas
We made our Saltine Cracker Toffee with only Heath Bar to top it, but there are many other ways to flavor it. Here’s some other topping ideas.
- Heath pieces
- sprinkles
- white chocolate
- peppermint pieces
- pretzel pieces
- coarse salt
- pistachios
- peanuts
- toasted pecans
Prepare Toffee
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a small pot, add butter, brown sugar and vanilla, and bring to a boil.
While butter/sugar mixture is heating up, line a baking sheet with foil and spray it with non-stick spray. Next, place saltine crackers in a single layer on baking sheet.
Once butter and sugar are boiling, whisk constantly for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and pour over saltine crackers. Use an offset spatula to even spread across saltine crackers.
Bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
While caramel is cooling, microwave chocolate chips in 30 second increments until fully melted. DO NOT over melt or allow water to get into melted chocolate.
Pour chocolate over caramel, and spread evenly to cover caramel.
Sprinkle your favorite toppings over melted chocolate and let cool completely.
If you want to add a melted white chocolate drizzle, wait for chocolate to completely cool, and then add over the top.
Break toffee into small-ish pieces, and enjoy!
